Late Afternoon Shadows

I have nothing to add to my brilliant post title, except that we are 90 days into Project 365, just shy of a quarter of the way. I celebrated by buying a new camera (Canon S3 IS); how about you?

First Ice Cream Outing

It must be spring: ice cream at Sweet Claude's. Only someone thought it was still too cold for ice cream and hit the McDonald's next door for a hot apple pie. Hmm...

Birch Bark

A fallen tree in the woods in front of our house. I liked the textures in this shot.

Swamp

Through the woods behind our house we have a stream and a stretch of swampy land. We rarely go back there; in the summer there's just too much undergrowth to get through. But a couple of us ventured back today to see what was what and were rewarded with muddy boots and pants and some decent pictures.

March Self-Portrait

I originally intended to do a self-portrait on the first of every month, but I completely forgot on March 1 and then kept putting it off. I don't enjoy doing them, but I do think it may be interesting to look back on them.

Nursery

Here's one of the little guys I had the pleasure of playing with in the church nursery this morning. We had a great time!

Sisters

This is my mom (on the right) and her younger sister. We celebrated Mom's birthday tonight with a surprise party at her house. I don't think she was too surprised--the logistics were difficult--but I do think she was pleased.

Foggy Morning

The view out the dining room window this morning. It looks kind of eerie out there, but I was safe inside with my coffee and my camera.

Reading Time

Everyone is reading. I almost forgot to take a picture today. The book I am reading is in the foreground; I didn't want to put it down to take a picture. But I did.

Karate Night

Wednesday evenings I take Ben to karate. I don't stay for the class, but I usually catch the last 10 or 15 minutes. Tonight he was working on forms when I came in.

Bleak House

I read a chapter or two of Bleak House during Aimée's piano lesson today, with the sun streaming through the window at my back and creating these shadows.

Teenage Driver

Aimée, diligently practicing her driving again, after taking much of the winter off.

Church Potluck

We enjoyed a potluck lunch after our morning worship gathering today. I took about 50 pictures, so it was hard to choose just one, but I wanted to honor three of the women who make events like this happen for us at Grace Baptist Church.

Kirigami

For Christmas 2003 I was given a Kirigami Fold & Cut-A-Day calendar. I faithfully did my daily kirigami designs for some months, I think, before giving up and putting the rest away. Too tired and congested to sit and read my current Puritan theologian this afternoon, I pulled out the kirigami and chose a few to do while listening to an audiobook. The peacock I made into a bookmark with my Xyron sticker-maker and laminator, one of my favorite gifts from Christmas 2006.

Siblings

When I saw these two like this, I thought of them when they were little, playing together with a blanket and play food on the staircase landing in the house we lived in then. Wasn't that just yesterday? But here they are, nearly grown and still enjoying each other. A sentiment only a mother can really appreciate, perhaps.

Tree Hole

Who made this hole? I'm guessing some kind of woodpecker, but I don't really know. I noticed a larger hole in a nearby tree out my second story window and went out to investigate this morning. There are a number of holes in these two trees, some several inches in diameter and some quite small, like this one. Someone's been busy, anyway.

Jamario

This little guy's mommy was busy today having a baby, so he stayed with us. We served bananas and goldfish and cheese, made monkey noises together, and played with Duplos. It doesn't sound all that tiring--why am I so wiped out?!

March Playlist

Here are the first nine (of fifteen) songs on my March playlist on my iPod. It's an eclectic mix of folk, Christian, alternative, bluegrass, jazz...very odd, I'm sure. There's certainly something odd about "Say Yes! To M!ch!gan!" right before "Sovereign Grace O'er Sin Abounding"!

Evening Service

Aimée played piano for our evening service tonight. She focuses on every little mistake, but I just think, Wow, that's my girl!

Wheel Barrow

My world is pretty drab and muddy these days, but all winter I've been grateful for our red wheel barrow. Not that I've used it since fall--it's just that dash of color I like. (There are other dashes of color in our yard--junk the boys have hauled into the woods, mostly--but that all looks like trash, and this looks...homey, maybe? Whatever.)

Blowing Snow

We had some light snow this week, and it's very cold and windy. This is wind-blown snow on our driveway.

Library Night

I spent the evening at the library while Ben was at karate. I brought one book with me, found three for my youngest to read, and found Bleak House for me. Quite a stack--wish I'd brought a bag!

Mail

I have always loved getting mail. Here's today's stack. It's a particularly good mail day, with the last installment of Bleak House from Netflix, my Macworld magazine, and U.S. News.

Bell Ensemble

In addition to being part of our church's 11-member bell choir, I have the privilege of being in a 4-member bell ensemble. I love the mental challenge. This picture shows one of our pieces and two of "my" seven bells.

Upper West Side, NYC

The perfect picture for the day would have had both my aunt and my uncle with some piece of New York City in the background, but I didn't take that picture. No single picture that I did take adequately sums up the day, so I'm choosing my favorite in terms of photography. I just love these buildings.

We spent the day at the Museum of Natural History and Chinatown. This picture was taken after the successful search for a parking spot in the vicinity of the museum.

Bridges to Brooklyn

We spent the weekend visiting my aunt and uncle and cousin and seeing New York City. This is the night view from the Staten Island Ferry, looking toward Manhattan. From the ferry we also saw the Statue of Liberty and the lunar eclipse.

Drips

This was the view at the dining room window this morning. By late afternoon the sun had come out, and the world was sparkling in the light, but this gray view held no hint of what was to come.

Desktop

I spend a lot of time in front of my computer. Here is a fairly typical desktop "scene": iTunes running in the the right corner, iChat buddy list on the right, Safari web browser up with My Yahoo page and another tab with the homeschooling message board I read loaded.
