I've gradually become a coffee snob. The worst thing is becoming intolerant of decaf. This Komodo Dragon Blend Decaf from Starbucks is an (expensive) attempt to find something good I can drink in the evening. I'm liking it, more's the pity for the budget.

We spent the summer reading and discussing John Piper's book Desiring God. It's not a particularly humorous book, but we had a lot of laughs along the way!

Dining Room Floor

Last night we ripped the carpet off the floor in the dining room. I always thought having carpet in a dining room was a bad idea, and if I'd known it was as easy to get rid of as it turned out to be, I'd have done it years ago. We will have to get the floor refinished, but I'm loving the wood already.

Shopping

The first L.L. Bean retail store in Connecticut opened last week, and I made the 40-minute drive this morning to check it out. I was a little disappointed in the selection, but I enjoyed exploring the many shops in this new shopping area and managed to spend several hours and no money at all--not bad!

Umpachene Falls

This has turned into the summer of waterfalls: this is our third waterfall visit (so far). Umpachene Falls in western Massachusetts is a lot of fun if you like climbing around on slippery rocks, swimming in the river, or just watching the water.

Chesterwood

Wednesday morning we visited Chesterwood, the home and studio of Daniel Chester French, sculptor of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. On the large property were not only these buildings and formal garden but a temporary exhibit of contemporary sculpture, which was pretty interesting to see.

Bash Bish Falls

Bash Bish is on the border of Massachusetts and New York State near where my mom lives. We paid a visit to the falls on Tuesday, the first of a few days with Mom in the Berkshires of Massachusetts.

Night Sky

I chose this not because it's a great picture (it's not) but because, well, how often do I have my picture of the day taken before the sun rises? We got up at 2 this morning to watch the Perseid meteor shower. It was fun, but we were hampered by cloudy skies.

Aimée and I spent about an hour waiting for the oral surgeon to check her wisdom teeth sites, which are fine. It was pleasant enough chatting, but a wait like that sure does mess up a morning that should be full of other things.
